The West Virginia Associated Crop Growers is the official seed certification organization in West Virginia (WV Code 61-9-11).  We provide field inspections and certification for commercial seed production in selected crops, as well as for the Noxious Weed Free Straw and Forage Program

Mission

The primary objectives of this Association shall be to advance the interests of agriculture in West Virginia by encouraging the production and use of good seed and to make known the sources of good seed by means of certification.

These objectives shall be accomplished in any of the following ways:

  1. By cooperating with the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, particularly the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences; the Agriculture and Natural Resources Division of the West Virginia University Extension Service; and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture in the continuous campaign for the use of good seed.
  2. By growing and distributing seed of improved varieties of crops under rules for certification as may be laid down from time to time.
  3. By holding an annual meeting to discuss and promote the objectives of the Association.
  4. By carrying on such activities as exhibits, show, yield contests, judging contests or other projects designed to promote the production and use of good seed in the state.
  5. By joining and participating in the activities of the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies.

 

Membership

Any resident of West Virginia who conforms to the rules of the Association shall be entitled to membership upon payment of the dues.  All persons applying for certification of seed or for weed-free straw or forage must become a member and pay annual dues. Annual dues are $5.00, and cover the period from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31.
